Living Histories: João Paulo Simões

João is a film maker in Sheffield and moved here from Portugal, to study film at university. He enjoys visiting Portugal for holidays and to see his mother. For him, Portugal is the scent, the sight, the taste, the touch and the sound of who he is and how he is formed. The cultural heritage is a huge influence for him, and the references can be seen through some of his style of filmmaking. You can see more of João’s work at www.frontiermedia.blogspot.com

João’s story is part of the ‘Displaced Migration: Living Histories project’ – a project by Element Society, and in partnership with Storying Sheffield at University of Sheffield, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Element Society is a youth charity based in Sheffield delivering development, social action and enterprise programmes to young people and vulnerable adults.
