'Coming Home' Exhibition Weston Park Museum, Sheffield Saturday 2 July 2011 - Sunday 24 June 2012 This display in the Sheffield Life and Times gallery explores the important influence our home lives have on our mental health. Coming Home has been created by current and former Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust NHS service users working with Museums Sheffield and the University of Sheffield, and includes a powerful and moving film made by by staff and students from Storying Sheffield. The display also features a series of ‘bricks’ which have been created by participants to represent why their own home is important to them. As part of the University of Sheffield's Dream Bigger Dreams activities in Rotherham over the summer half-term, Storying Sheffield will be running a Storying Rotherham event. You will be helped by Storying Sheffield staff and students to tell and create your own story.
You'll be able to use a variety of techniques including writing,
photography, film, objects, drawing and audio. And your story can be
added to this website for everyone to share. You can also learn more about the University and our courses. Feel free to bring along any items which will help you tell your story, but don't worry if you forget! Click here for more details

Sensoria Music/ Film/ Digital Festival 2011 Storying Sheffield's 'Institute Dentamental' film is being shown at the Sensoria festival on Thursday May 4th at the Screen on the Square event. |
No Limits Film Festival 2011 The 'Women of Steel' film is being shown at the No Limits student film festival on Saturday April 2nd. It will be shown as part of the Cinema in the Park event which takes place between 8 and 10pm in Endcliffe Park, Sheffield. |

International Women's Day 2011 The 'Women of Steel' film is being shown at Sheffield Town Hall for International Women's Day. (7th March 2011: 6-8pm) Some of the women of steel will also be present to speak about their lives. The event is jointly organised by Sheffield City Council and the University of Sheffield. Tickets can be booked by emailing governance&involvement@sheffield.gov.uk |
University of Sheffield Court 2011 The Storying Sheffield project has been invited to exhibit at the annual meeting of The University of Sheffield Court in March 2011. The project will be displaying posters and showing a film and slideshow. Read about the Court here. Attendance is by invitation. |

Women of Steel
'Women of Steel' is a project run by Sheffield City Council and the Off the Shelf festival of reading and writing which commemorates the efforts of Sheffield women in the steel industry during WWII. Find out more. In December 2010 students from Storying Sheffield met with some of the women of steel, and this event will present films and digital interpretations of that meeting and the women's lives. There will also be a chance to hear the women speaking about their experiences in person. Friday February 4th 2011 |
SUN:RISE Service User Network Wednesday December 8th 2010 Christmas special! 2.30-3.30: Brendan Stone will speak about art and mental health, with reference to the Storying Sheffield project. Venue: Showroom 5 Meeting Room – at the Showroom Cinema (On Paternoster Row - close to the Bus and Train Stations) The Service User Network (SUN:RISE) is a sub group of the CMHT Forum which aims to improve the range of ways that Service Users can become informed and involved with the Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust.

An Arrangement of Knowledge: Contemporary Art Practice and Mental Health Presenters: Paul Digby & Brendan Stone October 26 2010 · 5:30pm - 7:00pm This event will explore the relevance and purpose of art in mental health services and provision. Leeds-based artist Paul Digby will discuss his work in this field, including his projects at Rampton Special Hospital and the former High Royds psychiatric hospital in Leeds. He will consider the influence on his work of the artists Marcel Duchamp and Jean Dubuffet, and the psychiatrists R.D. Laing and Eric Berne. Brendan Stone from the School of English will discuss the intellectual influences behind the University’s Storying Sheffield project, and consider whether artistic engagement presents challenges to some medical approaches to mental illness.
