'Victoria and Will's Picnic.' Picnic blanket by Victoria

Victoria's blanket featured in Creative Review

Dr Kate Pahl of the School of Education at the University of Sheffield led a workshop on the personal and social significance of objects.  Participants were asked to bring in an object which was significant to them, and which they could talk about. During the project participants also fashioned original objects to represent their own stories.

I had a picnic in a supermarket in Vietnam with my best friend Will. This is the story.

'Spoons of Sheffield,' by Sarah
My spoon collection began thirteen years ago on a hot, sunny day on a family vacation in Arizona. Little did I know that one day I would live in a town famous for its cutlery. This display case holds the spoons of various individuals living in Sheffield who I have had the pleasure of getting to know over the period of this course.

'A Day on a Skegness Boating Lake.'  Jigsaw made from a drawing by Paul. Paul was assisted by Sarah, an undergraduate student, in producing this.

The writing and the jigsaw showcase the humorous, sensitive and special nature of this episode in Paul’s life.

The story behind Paul's jigsaw, as displayed at the exhibition
