Living Histories: Rajna Begum

Rajna Begum was interviewed by her Son, Shuheb Miah for Element’s the project. Rajna is from Bangladesh and the interview was carried out in the Bangla language for ease of answering the questions and conversing about memories of home, smells, tastes, sights which are often difficult to find easily translatable words in English. Rajna reflected on her memories of home and her childhood – for her, heritage is what she grew up with – now Sheffield is her home.

Rajna’s story is part of the ‘Displaced Migration: Living Histories project’ – a project by Element Society, in partnership with Storying Sheffield at University of Sheffield, and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Element Society is a youth charity based in Sheffield delivering development, social action and enterprise programmes to young people and vulnerable adults.
